This seems odd: If CO2-induced warmth is necessary for the formation of powerful storms, why do we get large, powerful storms when it's cold outside?

Winter Storm Whips Into Northeast Bringing Snow, Rain
CONCORD, N.H. — A powerful winter storm blamed for 15 deaths in other parts of the country is bringing rain to southern New England and snow farther north, but the region has been largely spared the pounding that other states took.

The storm pushed through the Upper Ohio Valley and made its way into the Northeast Wednesday night, leaving up to a foot of snow in some locations by Thursday morning...
The storm also left freezing temperatures in its aftermath
